Electrical test proves the board matches the netlist. First-article inspection proves the process is set up correctly. Together they close the loop between design data and the physical board.
Test types
| Parameter | Capability |
|---|---|
| Flying probe | Bare-board opens and shorts without a fixture; good for prototypes and low volume |
| Fixture / bed-of-nails | Fast, repeatable bare-board test for production volume |
| In-circuit test (ICT) | Component presence, value and orientation on assembled boards |
| Functional test (FCT) | Power-up and application behavior against your test procedure |
| Boundary scan | Interconnect testing on JTAG-capable devices |
| Impedance test | Coupon measurement against the specified target |
First-article inspection
An FAI report documents the first board of a build against the drawing and BOM. It typically includes dimensional checks, material and finish confirmation, component values and polarity, solder-joint inspection, X-ray images and test results. For regulated products, the report can follow your preferred format or AS9102.
- Drawing and BOM revisionThe exact revisions used for the build are recorded.
- Dimensional and visual checksCritical dimensions, finish, mask and legend.
- Assembly verificationPart numbers, values, polarity and placement against the BOM.
- Test evidenceElectrical, AOI, X-ray and functional results as agreed.
Send your test specification with the order. If you do not have one, we can propose a test plan based on the schematic and the product’s critical functions.
Frequently asked questions
Is electrical test included in the price?
Bare-board electrical test is included on production panels. Assembly test depends on the plan and is quoted separately.
Can you build a test fixture?
Yes. For repeat production we can design and build a fixture, or use flying probe for lower volumes.
Do you provide FAI reports as standard?
FAI is included on request or when the product requires it. Tell us the format at quote stage.
